Renovation

Completed in 2026 at 16 Mathoura Road, Toorak, this carefully executed renovation and extension by Rio Frio Carroll Architects presents a sophisticated reinterpretation of a traditional Victorian terrace.

The project focuses on the creation of a highly resolved kitchen and dining area that anchors the home. Generous proportions are enhanced by cathedral style timber lined ceilings, creating warmth and verticality, while custom skylights introduce natural light that animates the space throughout the day. Bespoke cabinetry has been meticulously designed and detailed, reinforcing a sense of precision and individuality.

A defining architectural feature is the off form concrete colonnade, which brings a strong sculptural presence to the design. This element introduces rhythm, texture, and a contemporary edge, establishing a compelling contrast with the existing heritage fabric while maintaining a cohesive overall composition.

The result is a restrained yet expressive addition that elevates the functionality and spatial quality of the home, blending traditional character with a modern architectural language suited to its Toorak context.
